How to Childproof Your Home
Having young children is a great deal of work. They need constant attention, make messes all the time, and never give you a moment to catch your breath. You would not have it any other way, however, because being a parent is one of the most rewarding experiences on this planet. One concern that all parents share, however, is how to keep their children safe inside and outside of the house. It is impossible to keep your eye on them at all times no matter how hard you try. Toddlers take off in a million different directions; they might be in the living room one second but they are in the bathroom shower enclosure the next. If your home is not properly childproofed, they might seriously injury themselves. Here are some tips on how to keep your kids safe around the home.
Safety-latches are necessary on all drawers and cabinets. Small children love to get into anything and everything. These latches are the most important in the kitchen and the bathroom because it is easy for them to open the cabinets on the ground level and start to play with anything they find whether its pots, baking soda, or eye make-up remover. These latches make the cabinets difficult to open. As attention spans are never very long for three-year-olds, then they will give up after a few minutes.
The bathroom is a place that needs constant monitoring. Everything from glass shower doors to the toilet can be dangerous! Put a toilet lock in place. If the toilet lid is up, a toddler might topple in head first, and might drown. Always unplug blow dryers and electric curlers and install anti-scalding devices on showerheads and faucets to prevent any burns.
For the rest of the house, it is important to install safety gates at the bottom and the top of all flights of stairs so that no one takes a tumble down the steps. Corner and edge bumpers are great if you have tables with sharp corners. One of the most important items you need to get rid of is any looped cords that might reach the floor. Always lock blinds into position whether they are up or down as well.
As long as you make sure you have locks on your cabinets and shower stalls and do not have any loose cords about, you are well on your way to have a child proof home. Read as much as you can so that you know that your children are safe no matter what room they are in!
