Teenagers,stress and how to cope
Think you had it hard when you were younger? Nowadays more and more teenagers are becoming victims of stress and depression. Here are a few tips on how to deal with the continuous dramas of being a teenager and to become less stressed.
Step 1: Find a place to relax. Somewhere like your bedroom or, if you have been unlucky and share a room with a sister or brother, like me, find a place outside. Trust me, taking a walk or finding a quiet spot by the sea always calms me down.
Step 2: exercising. A simple way of relieving stress is the calm exercise of yoga. Also a quick 20 minute jog should help you release endorphins which allow you to feel happier and less stressed.
Step 3: Singing. This may not be effective for everyone out there, but singing helps me as I feel like I'm letting go of emotions trapped inside me. By the end of it I feel so much better about myself, and a lot calmer.
Step 4: Spending time with friends and family. When Life is hectic, you find it hard to make time for those most important to you. However in my opinion, when I feel stressed to the point that I cannot take it. I turn to my friends and family who are always there to make me smile and help me feel less stressed.
Step 5: Laughter! Believe me, when you feel like your head is going to explode, you'd more readily curl up in a ball and cry, rather than laugh. However, laughter is known to have many healthy benefits such as reduce stress, increase the immune system, reduce food cravings and give you a stomach workout. So stick on a funny DVD, and laugh your way through your adolescence.
Step 6: Sunbathing. This is only possible for me in the summer. As I live in Scotland. However, we all know how good you feel while the sun is out. So I suggest popping on a bikini or swimming trunks and catching a few rays, this helps relax you and although you may fall asleep at least you're tanned. Or if you're more the active type of person, going for a walk in the sunshine with a couple of friends will definitely lift your spirits and reduce your stress levels.
Step 7: Sex. If you are over 16 years of age and are in a happy committed relationship then I suggest having sex, as it helps release ‘happy hormones' as it is a form of exercise and also allows you to bond with your partner at the same time. Overall you will feel happy and less stressed.
