QuitKick - Total Stall System $319.99 QuitKick Total Stall System stops horses from kicking the rear and side walls of their stalls. The unit comes in four pieces back plate, two wireless sensors and a main unit. Assembly is easy - the two sensors are secured in the rear corners of the stall with the fittings provided, beneath the strawline, while the back plate is fitted to the bars at the front of the stall. The main unit is then attached to the back plate. The wireless sensors will detect when any of the walls are kicked. When kicked, the main unit sends two jets of water in a one-second burst into the stall. The horse will very quickly learn to stop kicking the walls.Your horse will remain free to do whatever else it likes to do in its stall, and the unit will only activate when a wall is kicked. A horse can still lean on its walls if it chooses to, and the sensors are set to detect the vibration of a kick, which is very different to the vibration created by leaning or brushing against the wall.Through trials it has been found that typically horses stop kicking the stall door very soon after QuitKick is installed, although the actual time varies from horse to horse.Trials have shown that continual use of QuitKick will ensure reinforcement of the horses revised, non-door kicking, behavior. |

conceret in a horses stall?
my horses stall floor is 1/2 concrete 1/2 wood. I am wondering how I would add concrete to the top of the wood to make it level with the existing concrete? And how long would the concrete need to cure before my horse can return to his stall? it would take about an inch- two inches in some places to make it level. hes a warmblood so weighs about 1200 lbs. The floor of the stall is covered with rubber matts and then with shavings. (idk if that information matters?) Also, when is the best time of the year to do this?
thank you for any help!
*this is NOT my barn nor did i choose the flooring for the stalls. I am simply trying to level out my horses stall so he and I can stop tripping over the mats due to huge dip in his stall. Instead of judging me, perhaps someone can offer suggestions on fixing the problem?? thanks.
You really should remove the wood first. It is not a stable base for concrete. As a compromise, you could use compacted agricultural lime (ag lime) to create a firm base beneath the rubber mats. It would require layering the lime (it is crushed limestone) and power compacting each layer, and finally leveling and compressing the top layer so it is level with the existing concrete. To do it right, you need a power compressor that can deliver enough force to tightly compact the lime. I would use the compactor on the wood before adding the lime. Because the wood may degrade beneath the lime over time, you will need to periodically reassess the floor to assure it remains level. But if the initial compression is done right, it should hold up pretty well. The advantage to using compacted limestone is in that it absorbs moisture exceptionally well, where concrete absorbs nothing. The lime will continue to absorb moisture as well as to reduce odors when urine manages to leak under your rubber mats over the lime. You can drill small holes in your mats to allow slow leakage of urine that is not absorbed by your bedding to drain into the limed area of the stall. If you have adequate ceiling height, you can also layer and compact about 6 inches of lime over the existing concrete to create drainage over the whole floor surface of the stall. Concrete absorbs nothing, while lime is very absorbant and reduces odor from decomposing urine. I've used compacted ag lime to create flooring in my run in shelter, which is partially covered with rubber mats, and it functions beautifully.
