I would like some feedback on what record keeping system riders and horse owners use for feeding, and?
and vet and farrier visits and training. Which is easiest for you to use and do you use any horse-related software for your records? Thanks.
It depends on how large a scale your horse business is. Personally, I only own five horses, and we feed them all the same and have vaccinations done for all of them at the same time, and I do all of the training myself. So I don't keep any records other than write the date on a calendar when we deworm them, etc.
My husband keeps records on his feeder calf operation, and he uses a Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet system to keep all of the feed, cost, vet care, trailering expense, fencing expense, purchase cost of the calves, cost of weight gain per animal, and selling prices for each calf. This helps him compare and figure out how to improve the operation and make more money.
So I would recommend Excel, or another spreadsheet style of program. I don't know of any horse-related programs available, but there might be some.
