Foals in the Field $4.32 Mandy and James are determined to save twin foals born on Drysdale Farm as their owner, Nick Summers, must focus all his attention on making the farm a success, or else it will have to be sold. |

Is this a bad idea?
I have a quarter horse/ belgian draft horse 2 year old filly. In the spring I am going to have her trained for riding. Then a year later spring of 2009 I want to breed her. I would like to have her bred to an arabian stalian but I read today that arabian horses have diffrent bone structer they have a few less vertabrais and one less rib. Are these structural diffrences going to cause proublems for the foal?
She will be four when finally bred
I didn't breed this filly. It was a two for one kind of thing I bought the mom and the filly came with. Breeding her to an arabian is something that a nieghboor segested. She has arabians and quarter horses.
My nieghboor offered to breed her to one of her studs.I plan to keep the foal not sell it. This is not some money making plan.
There will be no problems breeding. Planning to begin riding her at three as you plan is fine. People should not criticize so much, especially when they do not even bother to read your post. You are no heavier than a paperweight to such a horse and light riding will not hurt it despite popular belief to the contrary. And breeding at four is fine.
I too however will say that if you are not going to keep the foal, I would not breed her. Nor can I figure out why you would want such a cross. Could you enlighten me as to what specifically you are after. You bred to the draft which increases the size and now want to breed to a petite arab and go back the other direction? Why was the cross performed to get the mare in the first place? I am really quite curious here. I feel like I am missing a piece of a puzzle.
