Looking for a halter that will not rub the hair off my horses nose?
I have two horses - one is a Paint, the other an Anglo Arab (1/2 Arab, 1/2 Thoroughbred). The barn I board at requires halters on at all times. I have been using standard breakaway nylon halters on both of them. The Paint is fine, but my Anglo Arab is getting a bump and a rubbed off spot on her nose. I've tried halters with lighter weight hardware to no avail. I also tried fleece wraps, but they just seemed to annoy her, not to mention that the dirt really stuck to them and seemed to make the problem worse. Any suggestions on a halter type that won't rub her extra sensitive face?
The barn owner requires that the horses wear halters so they can be easily removed in an emergency. They have stated that a horse collar is acceptable since my horses lead easily. I have considered a breakaway collar, but haven't found a nice one.
I have had the same problem with my Mule. Try one that is lined with neoprene. They are not as bulky as fleece, and its sewn to the underside of the halter.
